The Civil Law Department is the center of the Precarpathian Civil Law School, the creation and formation of which took place after the independence of Ukraine. This period of Ukrainian civil law is characterized by significant changes in the approaches and directions of development of Ukrainian civil law thought, which was reflected in the fundamental principles and research results of the Precarpathian Civil Law School. Scholarly studies by the staff of the Department are carried out within the research topic «Legal problems of property realization and no property person rights in the conditions of market economy» (state registration number – 0110U001557).
The founder of the Precarpathian Civil Law School is a Professor, Doctor of Law, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Luts Volodymyr Vasylovych, who from 1996 to 2002 headed the Civil Law and Procedure Department. A defining stage in the formation of the Precarpathian Civil Law School was the opening of a postgraduate course (training program 12.00.03 «Civil Law and Civil Procedure; Family Law; International Private Law») on the basis of the Civil Law and Procedure Department in September 1997. Under the supervision of Professor Luts V. V. in 2000 Vasylyeva V. A. defended her thesis for the degree of PhD in Law, training program 12.00.03 «Civil Law and Civil Procedure; Family Law; International Private Law» on the topic «Legal Regulation of Relations under the Consignment Agreement», and in 2006 she defended the thesis for the degree of Doctor of Law on the topic: «Problems of Civil Law Regulation of Relations in the Provision of Intermediary Services». The works of Professor Vasylyeva V. A., who in 2002 took the position of the Head of the Department, became the basis for the development of such research direction of the Precarpathian Civil Law School as contractual regulation of relations in general and services in particular. Half of the defended theses are devoted to the topic of contract law, in particular: «Conclusion, Amendment and Termination of the Contract in the Civil Law of Ukraine» (Borodovskyi S. O., 2005), «Marriage Contract: Comparative Legal Analysis of Legislation of Different Legal Systems» (Oliinyk O. S., 2009), «Contract in Favor of a Third Party in the Civil Law of Ukraine» (Kuzmych O. Ya., 2010), «Civil Law Regulation of Relations under the Contract for the Provision of Public Utilities» (Heints R. M., 2011), «Contract as the Basis of Civil Obligations» (Vasylyeva V. V., 2013), «Civil Law Regulation of Property Management» (Albu A. A., 2016), «Protection of Consumers Rights in Transport Services» (Hryshko U. P., 2017), «Legal Regulation of Mergers and Consolidations of Legal Entities under the Law of Ukraine and the European Union» (Savetchuk V. M., 2019), «Legal Regulation of the Medical Insurance Contract» (Petechel N. M., 2021) and others. In total, there are 35 theses.
The team of civil law scholars of the Precarpathian Civil Law School today is represented not only by the academic staff of the Civil Law Department, but also by lecturers of other departments of the Educational and Research Institute of Law, namely: Judicial Proceedings Department has 3 PhD in Law: Associate Professor Logvinova M. V., Associate Professor Kuzmych O. Ya., Lecturer Gankevych O. M.; Constitutional, International and Administrative Law Department has 3 PhD in Law: Lecturer Albu A. A., Lecturer Fedoronchuk A. V., and Lecturer Zinych L. V. Today the Precarpathian Civil Law School is headed by the Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Law Professor Vasylyeva V. A. The Precarpathian Civil Law School opened the way to research activity of today’s Doctors of Law Pleniuk Mariana Dmytrivna and Kalaur Ivan Romanovych.
An important stage in the development of the Precarpathian Civil Law School was the creation in 2016 of a Specialized Academic Council K 20.051.14 with the right to consider and conduct the defense of theses for the PhD in Law (Doctor of Philosophy in Law), training program 12.00.03 «Civil Law and Civil Procedure; Family Law; International Private Law». During the period of its activity 19 PhD theses were defended. In 2017, a doctoral program (training program 081 «Law») was opened on the basis of the Educational and Research Institute of Law.
The result of the work of the Scholar School is professional articles, conference abstracts, defended PhD theses, in which the civil law regulation of corporate legal relations on the basis of the new legislative framework; research and theoretical justification of improving of the current legislation in the field of civil law regulation of property and personal non-property rights of individuals and legal entities; development of perspective legislation in the field of contract law, identification of features and improvement of legal norms in the field of regulation of family legal relations and relations of intellectual property rights are studied.
The research results of the Precarpathian Civil Law School were embodied in 4 doctoral and 56 PhD theses, of which 2 doctoral and 14 PhD theses were defended under the supervision of Professor Luts V. V, 1 doctoral and 17 PhD theses under the supervision of Professor Vasylyeva V. A., 4 PhD theses were defended under the supervision of Associate Professor Zozuliak O. I., 3 under the supervision of Associate Professor Logvinova M. V., 2 under the supervision of Associate Professor Banasevych I. I., 1 under the supervision of Associate Professor Zelisko A. V. and Associate Professor Heints R. M. Since 2020, the research results of the Precarpathian Civil Law School also include 6 theses for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Law (training program 081 «Law»), the topics of which relate to private law regulation of social relations, 3 of which were defended under the supervision of Professor Vasylyeva V. A., 1 under the supervision of Professor Luts V. V., 1 under the supervision of Professor Zozuliak O. I., and 1 under the supervision of Professor Kostruba A. V.
One of the main areas of research of the Precarpathian Civil Law School is the problem of legal regulation of corporate legal relations. This is facilitated by the operation of the Corporate Law Problems Laboratory of the Research Institute of Private Law and Entrepreneurship named after Academician F. H. Burchak of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine on the basis of the Educational and Research Institute of Law. The following theses were defended in this area: «Implementation of Corporate Rights by Participants (Founders) of Business Companies (Civil and Law Aspect)» (Sarakun I. B., 2008), «Succession in Corporate Legal Relations» (Sishchuk L. V., 2014), «Civil Law Methods of Corporate Rights Protection» (Slipenchuk N. A., 2014), «Exercise and Protection of Preemptive Rights in Corporate Legal Relations» (Babetska I. Ya., 2014), «Transaction as the Basis for Corporate Rights» (Butryn N. S., 2014), «Corporate Agreement» (Sygydyn M. M., 2016), «Corporate Investment Funds as Participants of Civil Legal Relations» (Danyliuk M. B., 2019), etc. During 2002-2021, together with the Corporate Law Problems Laboratory, 19 research events were held, including seminars, all-Ukrainian and international research and practical conferences and round tables devoted to the problems of corporate law in Ukraine and other European countries.

Modern research of the Civil Law Department staff of the Educational and Research Institute of Law also covers the problems of legal entities in civil law. In 2017, representatives of the Precarpathian Civil Law School defended 2 doctoral theses, namely: «Business Legal Entities of Private Law as Subjects of Civil Legal Relations» (Zelisko A. V.), «Non-Entrepreneurial Legal Entities as Subjects of Civil Law: theoretical and practical aspects» (Zozuliak O. I.).
The research interests of the Precarpathian Civil Law School are related to the problems of family law. In this area, 3 PhD theses were defended and work on a doctoral thesis on the topic «Exercise and Protection of Family Rights under the Legislation of Ukraine; Theoretical and Practical Aspects» (Associate Professor Logvinova M. V.) is performed.
Recently, there has been a trend to expand the research areas of the Precarpathian Civil Law School to the problems of legal regulation of relations in the field of intellectual property and consumer law. A number of PhD theses of the Precarpathian Civil Law School are devoted to the protection of consumer rights. In the field of consumer law works Associate Professor Banasevych I. I., who performs research on the topic «Contractual Obligations with the Participation of Consumers (Civil Law Aspects)».
Research on individual civil law institutions is being actively developed in the Civil Law School. The research results were embodied in 18 individual monographs.
